Asymptomatic bacteriuria (AB) in pregnant women is an actual problem, its prevalence ranges from 2 to 22%, an average of 6–8%. This form of urinary tract infection increases the risk of pyelonephritis in late pregnancy by 20–40%, due to physiological changes in the woman’s body during pregnancy.
Aim: results of a study evaluating the effectiveness of screening to identify AB in pregnant women and its impact on the incidence of obstetric complications (based on a retrospective analysis of 130 prenatal records and labor and delivery records) are presented.
Patients and Methods: efficacy and safety of antibiotic therapy of AB in pregnant women (fosfomycin trometamol, 3.0, single dose; 41 patients) were studied. 130 prenatal records (registration form No. 113) and labor and delivery records (form
No. 096/u) were analyzed. Bacteriological study of the midstream urine was performed by standard methods (82 samples).
Results: bacteriological examination of urine was performed in 130 patients, a positive result was obtained in 29 samples (22.3%): at a concentration of 105 CFU/ml and more — 8 samples, 102–104 CFU/ml — 18 samples, in 3 cases information on the concentration of the pathogen was absent in the prenatal records. With 100% implementation of screening for AB, a large number of defects in diagnostics and non-compliance with the requirements of regulatory documents are shown. Among obstetric complications in the group of patients with AB, premature detachment of the normally situated placenta was in the lead — 37.5%, premature labor — 25%.
Conclusion: fosfomycin trometamol in the treatment of AB in pregnant women showed high efficiency — 92.7%, and good tolerability (the incidence of adverse events was 4.8%). Obtained results allow recommending fosfomycin trometamol as the agent of choice in the treatment of AB in pregnant women.

Key words: asymptomatic bacteriuria, pregnancy, obstetric complications, fosfomycin trometamol.
