History

“Russian Medical Inquiry” [RMZh. Meditsinskoe Obozrenie; ISSN 2587-6821 (print), ISSN 2686-9918 (online)] was established in 2013 as a multidisciplinary periodical for outpatient practitioners. The journal was issued four to six times a year. High circulation and free distribution to medical institutions and personal addresses provided physicians of all Russian regions with high-quality information to gain their trust.

Since 2016, “Russian Medical Inquiry” (along with multidisciplinary issues) began to be published as specialized issues timed to landmark medical events. As a result, issues on gastroenterology, endocrinology, rheumatology, and other disciplines emerged.

The journal gradually acquired the shape of not only practical but also scientific periodical.

In 2018, the journal was issued as 16 issues on various medical areas. This year is significant as “Russian Medical Inquiry” was included in the List of the Higher Attestation Commission for 22 specialties.

The first two Issues of 2020 were titled “Russian Medical Review” and then the Journal acquired its present name “Russian Medical Inquiry”.

To continue the development of the scientific branch, the Editorial Board and Scientific Advisory Board which included leading academics and practitioners from various areas (including foreign ones) were established. A guest editor-in-chief (expert in the relevant field) began to supervise every issue. Editor-in-chief of the issue shapes its content and involves colleagues from various Russian institutions and cities, near and far abroad countries to familiarize Russian doctors with latest achievements and new trends in medicine, foreign experience in this area, views of different schools on the same issue, practical recommendations on patient’s management.

Today

To date, “Russian Medical Inquiry” is a peer-reviewed scientific and practical journal published 11 times a year. Each issue is thematic and covers a specific medical area (Allergy/Immunology, Surgery/Urology, Respiratory Diseases/Otorhinolaryngology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology).

The key missions of the journal are to familiarize medical practitioners with the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases in terms of evidence-based medicine, improve the professional level of practical health care specialists within postgraduate education, and be an informational platform for exchange of views and free discussion between specialists.

A wide audience coverage is provided by:

• regular release of thematic issues on various branches;

• involvement of leading experts in their field as editors-in-chief for issues who fill them with significant and interesting materials;

• publication of paper on allied fields;

• availability of publications, including those that received a positive review and were published electronically under a gold open access Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial 4.0 (CC BY-NC 4.0) license as a preprint on the website as well as full-text publication in the scientific electronic library (eLibrary.ru);

• representation of authors from different Russian regions and neighboring countries;

• free distribution among Russian doctors to make it available irrespective of the income;

• publication of most interesting (in the judgment of Russian-speaking Editorial Board members) papers translated into English to provide the access to publications for worldwide medical community and review of articles by foreign members of the Editorial board.

Fundamental medicine is indissolublely related to practical medicine. Therefore, the journal publishes original articles on epidemiology, etiology, and pathogenesis of various diseases, results of various treatment methods, and reviews of most relevant researches serving as a vector for the development of a particular field. Materials are accepted in English and Russian. In addition, conferences and symposiums that are significant for the medical community are announced and reports on past events are published.

Involvement of leading Russian experts as authors, wide representation at all major events, high quality printing, and free distribution of the journal are possible due to partnerships with major Russian and foreign pharmaceutical companies.

The continuous work of the Editorial Board, editor-in-chiefs responsible for the release, and editorial staff of the journal aims to monitor the quality of publications in accordance with international standards, comply with the principles of publication ethics, attract recognized experts as authors, and develop scientific international communication. This work achieves several goals, i.e., maintenance the status of a called-for scientific and practical journal that reproduces current developmental trends in various fields of medicine, accumulation materials from leading experts actively interacting with foreign colleagues and foreign authors from the near and, eventually, far abroad, and increase in the number of English-translated papers to expand the presence and visibility of Russian scientific articles in the international scientific information field.
