This article substantiates the need to optimize the drug treatment of patients with stable angina. The quality of therapy in this group of patients does not correspond to modern capabilities. In most cases, the applied drug therapy does not allow to control the existing risk factors of inappropriate prognosis of patients' life. To some extent, the inadequate treatment of angina pectoris generally contributes to maintaining a high mortality rate due to cardiac diseases in Russian Federation that is one of the highest in the world. Prescription of drugs with a proven positive effect is often based on non-optimal schemes. In addition to this, the drugs that do not have such effect are very often recommended. Most of them are the so-called metabolic drugs. Their wide appointment to patients with various forms of pathology, not only with cardiovascular diseases, has become a kind of fashion in the medicine of our country, despite the lack of a pharmacoeconomic basis for their benefits.
Key words: stable angina, statins, antiagregates, β-blockers, calcium channel antagonists, ivabradine, nitrates, nicorandil, trimetazidine, ranolazine, meldonium.
