Acute intestinal infections (AII) remain important for clinical practice. The leading pathogenetic syndromes in AII are: dehydration, destabilization of the microbiocenosis system and reduction of the protective properties of the intestinal mucosa mucin layer. The article presents the main approaches of evaluation of the dehydration severity and its correction, it shows the place of probiotics in therapeutic tactics and the selection criteria of strains. The most justified in the treatment of dehydration syndrome in children is the use of solutions with reduced osmolarity. Probiotic therapy should begin as early as possible after the onset of the disease and include strains of probiotics recommended by the international community. Cytomucoprotective therapy with the use of gelatin tannate (Adiarin®) has shown its efficacy and safety and can be recommended as part of an integrated pathogenetic therapy of acute intestinal infections in children.

Key words: acute intestinal infections, diarrhea, dehydration, probiotics, cytomucoprotective therapy, gelatin tannate, Adiarin®.
