Dikke G.B.

The article analyzes the publications of the Cochrane database, recommendations of international and domestic professional communities and publicly available clinical studies. The high risk of neural tube defects and other folate-sensitive fetal anomalies is often diagnosed in women and their male partners with NTD in their personal and family (first degree relationship) anamnesis, women taking anti-epileptic drugs or folate inhibitors, with fatness before pregnancy, suffering from malabsorption and Pre-gestational diabetes mellitus (type I or II), with MTHFR polymorphism, as well as women who did not take folic acid during preconception, who took COCs before the pregnancy, smokers and alcohol drinkers. The folate-sensitive fetal anomalies in women with high risk can be prevented by using 5 mg of folic acid for at least 3 months before conception and during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, and further - 0.4-1 mg during the next weeks of pregnancy, and 4-6 weeks after delivery. Conclusion. The use of folic acid in women with high risk of folate-sensitive fetal anomalies is effective and safe for the mother, fetus and newborn.

Key words: fetal anomalies, folic acid, folate, high risk.
