In the treatment of osteoporosis, there have been significant changes in recent years, related both to the creation of a new class of highly effective agents that prevent bone resorption, and to the prohibition of the use of previously widely prescribed drugs in connection with the revealed serious side effects. The article also discusses in detail etiological (primary osteoporosis: postmenopausal and senile, secondary: developing with long-term administration of glucocorticoids, etc.) and pathogenetic aspects (in particular, the deficiency of sex hormones, which leads to acceleration of bone metabolism processes with imbalance towards the bone resorption) of osteoporosis, the use of anti-resorption drugs that inhibit bone resorption acting on osteoclast (bisphosphonates, denosumab, selective modulators of estrogen receptors, estrogens), enhancing bone formation (fluorides, anabolic steroids, androgens). The unchanged preparation in the group of anti-osteoporotic remedies is calcium, the need for which is even greater with the use of antiresorptive drugs. In this regard, there is a need to select a complex preparation that contains a sufficient amount of calcium with high bioavailability in combination with vitamin D, as well as vital microelements needed in old age. One of these drugs is Calcemin Advance.
Key words: osteoporosis, postmenopause, calcium, vitamin D, Calcemin, denosumab, fracture, osteopenia, bisphosphonates, osteoblast.
