Opisthorchiasis is a natural focal zooanthroponosis. Opisthorchiasis is caused by helminths related to the Plathelmintes type, the Trematoda class, the Opisthorchidae family, Opisthorchis felineus and Opisthorchis viverrini species. The largest and most tense center of opisthorchosis in the world is Ob-Irtysh region, covering 10 districts and regions of Russia and Kazakhstan. Invasive population of Opisthorchis felineus in Western Siberia reaches 51.82%, in some areas over 95%. The course of opisthorchiasis can be acute and chronic. The clinical picture of the infection depends on the number of pathogens, with a small number of parasites the disease can be mild or asymptomatic, which can lead to a missed or late diagnosis. In fact, these parasites can not reproduce in the human body, and therefore the intensity of infestation with a high frequency of outbreaks can only be achieved by re-consuming the infected fish. Timely diagnosing is very important because the untreated opisthorchiasis invasion can lead to serious complications, such as liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma and others. The article describes the case of liver cirrhosis of opisthorchiasis etiology, tactics of treatment of this severe complication and the results of dehelminthization. The problems of the absence of an anti-opisthorchiasis drug in Russia are discussed and alternative ways of solving this problem are proposed.

Key words: opisthorchiasis, Opisthorchis felineus, liver cirrhosis, Praziquantel, Albendazole.
