Lichen ruber planus is an important issue in clinical dermatology due to the severe variants of the disease, its chronic course, potential malignant transformation of the lesions, difficulties in the diagnosis of atypical variants, and poor therapeutic efficacy. Etiology and pathogenesis still remain elusive while the treatment is difficult.
The importance of this issue is due to the multiple clinical variants of lichen ruber planus. Case history of a patient with long-term atypical disease is described. The paper reviews current data on the epidemiology, predispositing factors, histological findings, and genetic parameters of lichen ruber planus. Differential diagnostic, clinical, and laboratory criteria for the diagnosis as well as treatment approaches for lichen ruber planus with modern drugs based on domestic and foreign published data are addressed. The authors describe rare case history of the disease supported by photographies.
Keywords: lichen ruber planus, immunopathogenetic parameters, HLA system, histology.
