Rhinosinusitis is a mucous membrane inflammation of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses (PNS), manifested by two or more symptoms, one of which is nasal congestion or nasal discharge. Headache and olfaction decrement may also be noted. Acute rhinosinusitis is one of the most common diseases in general practice. The choice of treatment and management tactics for acute rhinosinusitis is regulated by various consensus papers in Europe (EPOS-2012), USA (IDSA-2012), (AAO-HNS 2016) and Russia. The trigger mechanism in the acute inflammation development of the paranasal sinuses is upper respiratory tract infection, in particular viruses. Secondary bacterial infection after viral infection develops in 0.5–2% of adults. The main treatment goals in acute rhinosinusitis are: disease duration reduction and early restoration of the patient’s life quality; severe bacterial complications prevention; a nastomotic PNS function restoration; pathogen eradication. It is necessary to adhere to the etiopathogenetic principle in the treatment tactics choice at different stages of acute rhinosinusitis,. The combined use of the silver proteinate agent in the standard therapy of acute rhinosinusitis contributes to faster relief of the main disease symptoms and facilitates the patient’s condition.
Keywords: acute rhinosinusitis, silver proteinate, comprehensive treatment.
