Primary incidence of ENT inflammatory pathology, such as acute otitis media, commonly associated with local and systemic complications, is a serious problem of modern otorhinolaryngology.

Aim: to evaluate the comparative efficacy, tolerability and safety of agents containing phenazone and lidocaine in the topical therapy of acute otitis media in adults.

Patients and Methods: the study included 30 patients (22 men, 8 women) aged 19 to 65 years with acute otitis media at the pre-perforated stage, who were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 received standard therapy with Lorotox® drug — eardrops for topical use. Group 2 received Otipax® — eardrops for topical use — as a local anti-inflammatory drug. Statistical data processing was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22 software package (Armonk, NY, USA).

Results: clinical and laboratory parameters comparison of the two groups showed no statistically significant differences in the effectiveness and safety of treatment with drugs containing lidocaine and phenazone. The applied treatment in both groups demonstrated achievement of statistically significant positive dynamics concerning complaints and clinical status of patients at reexaminations. The subjective complaints severity at the end of treatment in group 1 was significantly less, but the differences in clinical and digital indicators in the 1st and 2nd groups were not statistically significant, indicating similar effectiveness of drugs Lorotox® and Otipax® containing lidocaine and phenazone.

Conclusion: the study confirmed the good anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic effects of the studied agents. The drugs (Lorotox® and Otipax®) safety and clinical efficacy have been proved as part of complex treatment in adults with acute otitis media at the pre-perforated stage.

Keywords: acute otitis media, pre-perforated stage, topical treatment, eardrops, phenazone, lidocaine, Lorotox.
