Otosclerosis is a specific disease, presenting itself as initial metabolic bilateral osteodystrophy lesion focus of the bony otic capsule in the bony labyrinth. The disease etiopathogenesis has not yet been established. According to a number of authors, its epidemiological prevalence is 5.67 patients per 100 thousand inhabitants. Otosclerosis is usually divided into clinical, manifested by appropriate symptoms and signs, and histological — asymptomatic. Even though the basic surgical intervention methods were developed and introduced into clinical practice in the mid-twentieth century, otosclerosis surgical treatment remains an urgent problem of modern otorhinolaryngology. Currently, the frequency of complications and stapedoplasty unacceptable results remains quite high and ranges from 1.6% to 20%. According to various authors, the cochlear otosclerosis ranges from 1.5% to 20% of patients with chronic sensorineural hearing loss. The article attempts to generalize the patient management tactics taking into account the modern diagnostic methods possibilities. A meticulous preoperative examination is needed to reduce the risk of stapedoplasty events, including not only bone conduction and listening value, but also otosclerosis focalization detection, including temporal bones Multispiral Computed Tomography (MCT), and cochlear canal Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) if the cochlear otosclerosis is identified.
Keywords: otosclerosis, cochlear otosclerosis, temporal bones MCT, stapedoplasty, surgical treatment.
