Clinical efficacy of benzydamine drugs in the treatment of exacerbations of chronic tonsillopharyngitis

Chronic tonsillopharyngitis is one of the most common diseases diagnosed by ENT-doctors. In some cases, bacterial agents play a leading role in the occurrence of tonsillopharyngitis, while in others viruses play a leading role. In the absence of data on the bacterial etiology of the disease, the first place is given to the prescription of local therapy, an important place among which is given to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, in particular, benzydamine drugs.
Aim: to evaluate the effectiveness of benzydamine drugs on the duration of the course and severity of exacerbation of chronic tonsillopharyngitis.
Patients and Methods: a total of 30 patients were examined, divided into 2 groups. The control group received standard therapy with Tantum® Verde, a dosed spray for local use. The experimental group received Angidak® as a local anti-inflammatory agent, dosed spray for local use. In the presence of fever and/or pain syndrome, patients in both groups received systemic symptomatic therapy.
Results: the evaluation criteria were statistically reliable comparison of clinical and laboratory parameters of control and experimental groups. The applied treatment in both groups demonstrated the achievement of statistically significant positive dynamics from the side of complaints and the clinical status of patients during repeated examinations ENT-doctor. No statistically significant differences in clinical and numeric parameters of the experimental group and control group were revealed, which indicates similar efficacy of the drugs Angidak® and Tantum® Verde, a dosed spray for local use containing benzydamine.
Conclusion: the study confirmed the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial effects of the drugs under study. The safety and efficacy of benzydamine drugs application, dosed spray for local application as a part of complex treatment of patients with exacerbation of chronic tonsillopharyngitis at any stage of disease development was proved.
