Gastric cancer is a leading contributor to oncological mortality globally, prompting a growing interest in early diagnosis and effective treatment strategies. The progression of malignant tumors, treatment efficacy, and disease prognosis are intricately linked to immune system alterations. Cytokines, as protein signaling molecules, play a pivotal role in mediating cell-cell interactions between the immune system and other body systems. Recent studies have unveiled the impact of cytokines on the development of gastric malignancies. Cytokines are involved in the carcinogenic process, exhibiting both pro-oncogenic and anti-oncogenic properties. Helicobacter pylori infection triggers chronic inflammation in the stomach wall, a precursor to gastric carcinogenesis. This article elucidates the effect of cytokines on gastric cancer progression in the context of H. pylori infection. One of the most critical aspects related to cytokine clinical characteristics in gastric cancer is the prediction of treatment efficacy. Furthermore, studies on the cytokine role in gastric cancer hold significant implications for diagnostic approaches and may uncover novel treatment tactics.

Keywords: gastric cancer, cytokines, carcinogenesis, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, Helicobacter pylori.
