Purpose: to study individual some morphometric indicators of neuroretinal rim and retinal nerve fiber layer in the diagnosis of early stage glaucoma.
Methods: the study included 40 subjects: main group - 29 patients (32 eyes) with early POAG and control group - 11 healthy subjects (20 eyes). All patients underwent visometry, ophthalmoscopy, tonometry, biomicroscopy, computer perimetry, contour perimetry, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, spectral optical coherence tomography.
Results and conclusions: in the study were examined by morphometric indicators: area and excavation optic nerve head (ONH), area and volume of neuroretinal rim, the average thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and the distance from the edge of Bruch's membrane to the nearest point on the internal limiting membrane (ILM). When comparing results obtained squares and excavation ONH was not found statistically significant differences in the initial stage of group of persons with glaucoma and in a group of healthy individuals. In patients with I stage of POAG statistically significant differences were established indicators of medium thickness layer of nerve fibers in nasal-inferior ONH segment and, in general and in all segments neuroretinal rim, excluding in temporal segment. The analysis of obtained data, determinants of minimum distance from the edge of Bruch's membrane to the nearest point on the ILM, in no case did not receive statistically significant differences between the studied groups.
What was the reason for holding the correlation analysis morphometric indicators? Detected statistically correlations between volume/area of neuroretinal rim and indicator minimum rim width (MRW) in temporal hemisphere of ONH. We believe that MRW can be a criterion for monitoring and prognosis of the disease, but not for early diagnosis.
Key words: glaucoma, Bruch's membrane, internal limiting membrane, minimum rim width, neuroretinal rim, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, optical coherence tomography.
