The problem of back pain is one of the leading problems in modern medicine. The medical and social importance of this pathology is determined by its prevalence, high temporary and persistent disability. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the back pain incidence rate, especially among people of the most active working age, has reached epidemic and social levels, which leads to large economic losses in all industrialized countries. The article is devoted to the problem of lumbosacral pain syndrome (LSPS) in patients with vertebral osteochondrosis (VO), a disease that until now has caused contradictions among the researchers. Meanwhile, the etiopathogenetic and sanogenetic nature of the degenerative-dystrophic process and the resulting orthopedic and neurological dysfunctions have not been studied well yet. The article presents and analyzes modern views on the relevance, pathogenesis, clinical features of pain in the back, comorbid visceral pathology in lumbar osteochondrosis, as well as the management tactics of this category of patients. There is a conceptually new direction of the solution of the LSPS problem, which is considered from the viewpoint of the disease of the organism as a whole and violations of its most important self-regulating functional systems.
Key words: back pain, viscero-vertebral pain syndrome, lumbar osteochondrosis, organism as a whole.
