Asthenic syndrome in general practice: therapy possibilities

The article presents the asthenic syndrome problem, its classification, clinical picture, and methods of treatment. Asthenia is a gradually developing psychopathological disorder. It is the most common syndrome in clinical practice. The relevance of the asthenia problem is confirmed by numerous studies. There is an asthenia symptom complex consisting of three parts: asthenia clinical manifestations, disorders associated with the underlying pathological condition, and disorders due to the patient psychological response to the disease. Asthenia manifestations consist of the following symptoms: fatigue, a decrease in mental and physical capability, sleep disorder, increased irritability or vice versa lethargy, mood swings, vegetative disorders. In this regard, the treatment main objectives are to reduce the asthenia degree and associated symptoms, increase the activity level, and improve the patient’s life quality. In-house observation results of the senile patients’ group with the asthenic syndrome and skin itching demonstrated clinical efficacy, the satisfactory safety and tolerability profiles, which became the basis to recommend the drug for widespread use. The article also presents the authors’ own observations on the Bromcamphora use in senile patients with asthenic syndrome and skin itching.
