Elderly patient with comorbid pathology in the practice of a cardiologist

An increase in life expectancy in a population and the aging of a population represent a global demographic phenomenon all over the world. This category of patients is distinguished, on the one hand, by the polymorbidity of pathological states with specific manifestations of each of them, mainly by the chronic course of existing diseases, and on the other hand, by the difficulty of diagnostics and selecting drug therapy. A high prevalence of cardiovascular disease and its frequent pathogenetic relationship with various comorbid diseases and conditions is a serious problem for any clinician, since he needs to take into account several components of therapy, which makes it difficult to control the effectiveness of the treatment, increases the likelihood of topical and systemic adverse events of drugs and also reduces adherence to therapy. Treatment of comorbid disorders requires careful compliance with the requirements of rational pharmacotherapy, high clinical professionalism and a wide range of knowledge of the physician in related specialties. Using the criteria of the American Geriatrics Society (Beers criteria) for patients over 65 years of age can help rationalize the pharmacotherapy of this category of patients in inpatient and outpatient visits.
Key words: comorbid pathology, polymorbidity, cardiovascular diseases, rational pharmacotherapy, polypragmasy.
