The epidemic prevalence of obesity throughout the world determines the need for new studies of its mechanisms, developing new approaches to the examination and treatment of such patients. Due to the fact that obesity is associated with cardiovascular diseases, liver injury and other comorbid conditions, currently doctors need to have a broad vision of the problem and establish diagnosis and choose treatment in accordance with these concepts. In recent years, a large number of studies have been aimed at reading the mechanism of insulin resistance — a key mechanism leading to lipotoxicity and the development of complications of the cardiovascular system, including fatal ones. Understanding the role of the liver in the development of lipotoxicity can be useful for the development of new therapies. The article deals with the relationship between obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and existing and potential methods for managing these pathological conditions.

Key words: obesity, insulin resistance, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiovascular diseases.
