Skin is a unique organ with its physiology and anatomy. At the same time, the skin, as an organ, performs many important functions, including barrier-protective, receptor, thermoregulatory, immune, respiratory, secretory, metabolic, etc. The article describes in detail the main functions of the skin and the anatomical and physiological features of the skin of infants. An extensive review of dermatoses of young children and methods of their treatment are given. Proper infants’ skin care is the basis for the prevention of various infectious and allergic skin lesions of the child, including atopic dermatitis. The use of D-Panthenol ointment is especially important in these cases. D-Panthenol ointment has proved its efficacy in dermatological and pediatric practice due to its significant clinical effectiveness and high safety both in the treatment and prevention of various pathological conditions of the skin, including diaper and atopic dermatitis in children.

Key words: skin, barrier-protective skin function, dermatoses, infants, D-Panthenol.
