 Alpatov S.A.

Clinic «Optimal», Podgorica, Montenegro

The review discusses the role of angiogenesis inhibitors in treatment of age-related macular degeneration. The target of this class of drugs is a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Today several VEGF inhibitors are used in clinical practice. They work at different stages, including VEGF production, receptors and postreceptor signaling pathway. Results of international clinical trials on several angiogenesis inhibitors are presented.  Efficacy and safety (including the number of eye and somatic complications) are discussed.
