The paper provides information about mechanisms of action of metabolic drugs: Glycine, Biotredin, Eltacin and Limontar. All of them influence the pathogenesis of any disease - hypoxia, cells energy shortages, oxidative stress. Any therapy should start with improving the cell metabolism. Metabolic drugs are physiologically active endogenous substances, involved in metabolic processes and contributing to normalization of pathological conditions. Metabolic therapy activates body's internal processes and eliminates the pathology with natural forces of the body. It is, in fact, regulatory therapy. It is necessary just to determine which system needs the influence. A distinctive feature of metabolic cytoprotectors is their ability to increase cells bioenergetics without changing systemic hemodynamics and to protect them from damaging effects of free radicals. Despite pharmacotherapy progress, it is obvious that classical therapy has some limitations, including drug side effects. So it's necessary to look for fundamentally new ways to treat a number of diseases, which highlights the importance and urgency of this paper.

Key words: metabolite therapy, amino acids, antioxidant protection, efficiency, safety.
