Atherosclerotic rhapsody
The symposium "Atherosclerotic Rhapsody» was held within the framework of the X International Educational Forum «Rossiyskie dni serdtsa" (Russian Days of the Heart) in St. Petersburg. The symposium discussed the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia, the treatment tactics of early combined lipid-lowering therapy in patients at very high cardiovascular risk. It was noted that achieving and maintaining the target levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) was a key factor affecting the prognosis and improving cardiovascular outcomes in patients with both cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. The correction of LDL cholesterol levels is important as early as possible to adjust the patient’s cardiovascular risk. To date, statins with ezetimibe should be used in high- and very high-risk patients, preferably using fixed combinations, which allows to increase patients’ adherence to therapy. Fixed combinations of rosuvastatin + ezetimibe and atorvastatin + ezetimibe have been registered in the Russian Federation. The efficacy and safety of rosuvastatin, atorvastatin and ezetimibe both in a single regimen and in combination has been confirmed in a number of large clinical studies.
Keywords: cardiovascular risk, cardiovascular diseases, dyslipidemia, cholesterol, ezetimibe, rosuvastatin, atovarstatin, fixed combination.
