What to take after overeating: enzymes or prokinetics?

The article presents data on the differentiation of symptoms, united under the popular term “overeating”. Functional dyspepsia manifests with regularly recurrent symptoms: postprandial fullness, heaviness in abdomen after meal, early feeling of satiety, burning in epigastrium or heartburn, epigastric pain and discomfort. Symptoms of dyspepsia often accompany irritable bowel syndrome due to the common stages in the development of these diseases. The key diagnostic criterion for dyspepsia is the results of gastroscopy. The manifestations of chronic pancreatitis differ radically from the symptoms of dyspepsia, for relieving which patients often use enzyme preparations. Chronic pancreatitis can occur for a long time without clinical manifestations. Chronic pancreatitis is accompanied by two main symptoms: abdominal pain and pancreatic insufficiency. The main goal of treatment of secretory insufficiency is a replacement therapy, which leads to normalization of stool and weight gain. The means of choice for the treatment of “overeating” symptoms may be a multi-purpose therapy with Iberogast, which has both prokinetic and spasmolytic effects, and also reduces gastric hypersensitivity.
