Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) rank first among human infections. Considering that difficulties in ARI prevention and treatment result from a myriad of causative infectious agents, medications affecting natural human immune mechanisms might be useful prevention. Indications and contraindications should be considered when prescribing immunomodulation therapy. This treatment requires clinical and immunological monitoring and should be performed no more than once or twice a year. Depending on the mechanism of action, vaccine-like bacterial immunomodulators are subdivided into systemic and predominantly topical agents. Pathogenic approach to ARI prevention using complex homeopathies (which mechanism of action differs from that of classic antibiotics) might help to improve treatment efficacy and safety. These medications are regarded as multicomponent antigenic complexes which orchestrate cytokine network and balance proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Lymphomyosot has drainage, deintoxication, immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory, and anti-exudative effects. The efficacy of this agent with broad indications was demonstrated in clinical trials.
Key words: acute respiratory infections, prevention, bacterial lysates, complex homeopathies.
