Aim: to evaluate the efficacy of a fixed-dose combination of mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis (AR), using data from individuals treated at a pulmonary allergy center.

Materials and Methods: the efficacy of a combined intranasal formulation of mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride was evaluated in adult patients with moderate-to-severe seasonal AR in a real clinical practice at the pulmonary allergy center. A total of 30 patients were included in the study. Participants received the fixed-dose combination of mometasone furoate (25 µg) and olopatadine hydrochloride (600 µg) at a dosage of two sprays per nostril twice daily for 14 days. Symptom severity of AR and associated conjunctivitis was assessed at baseline, as well as after 7 and 14 days of treatment, using standardized tools including the Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Total Ocular Symptom Score (TOSS), and Sino-Nasal Outcome Test 22 (SNOT-22).

Results: at baseline, all patients reported nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, nasal itching or burning, and sneezing. Additionally, 15 patients (50%) presented with concomitant allergic conjunctivitis. Following the therapy initiation, there was a statistically significant reduction in TNSS, VAS, TOSS, and SNOT-22 scores at both the 7-day and 14-day evaluations (p <0.0001 for all comparisons relative to baseline). Symptom relief was noted as early as the first day of treatment in 17 patients (56.6%), with substantial clinical improvement observed by day 7. By day 14, 80% of patients with concomitant conjunctivitis experienced complete resolution of symptoms.

Conclusion: the fixed-dose combination of mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride demonstrated high efficacy in the management of seasonal AR, achieving substantial symptom control. Importantly, the treatment also provided effective management of concomitant allergic conjunctivitis, significantly enhancing patients' quality of life.

Keywords: seasonal rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal symptoms, intranasal glucocorticosteroids, fixed combination, olopatadine hydrochloride, mometasone furoate.
